statement

I use photographs of discriminative landscapes (space) (e.g. a room decorated with 70s furniture or ruined theater) as an image source for my paintings. The figurative objects are composed with lines, and details of linguistically analyzable information associated with their specific features are replaced with uncertainty, where organic patterns and daubed layer of paint is supplemented. Viewers no longer are able to extract the chain of information through the image. Instead, the painterly intervention of ambiguity inside the landscape enhance the viewer’s psychological boundaries to blur and merge into a different realm of experience.

According to Keith Moxey, recent paintings have been considered as “presence”, where a viewer would directly and physically experience, rather than interpreting as having a contextual or social meaning. This new aspect highlights the great alteration in the social intellection of painting. It changed its framework, which was previously considered to entail a specific and preconditioned meaning, to painting as a relational integration between its physical presence and the viewers’ experience. What this implied was a shift within the system of authority, where participation of the viewer became essential in creating the meaning of painting."

The solo exhibition is now held at the Sprout Curation(29. Sept. 2012 ~ 17. Nov. 2012). In Sprout Curation, you can purchase his work. Please visit and enjoy the occasion!

interview

―What were you doing after your graduation in London? Please explain your main activity.

After my graduation, I had stayed London for 2years sharing studio with friends and doing studio practice and research for painting.
I worked for part-time job 3 days a week and spend the other days in my studio.
Within that period, I teach useful painting skills such as watercolor illustration for a letter, and had enough student to pay studio rent and materials.

―What do you want to realize in your painting?

What I would like to present in my painting is the rebooted landscape.
In a contemporary art world, we tend to focus on segmented movements or contemporary affairs, but I am trying to work with reframing a new recognition system without only accepting or rejecting so called "major problems" , what is art, what makes painting, etc..

―Please explain what you want to challenge, to realize, through micromecenat.

When we are trying to understand a painting,I think that experience of asking how a painter make images could be the most important clue.
Participated in this project in Micromecenat, I would like to provide an opportunity of communication between the painter and viewers in order to enhance your interest in art. Feel free to contact me If you have something to ask.
